About
Meet René García
LMFT-S, LPC-S, LCDC · Founder, Garcia Mental Health

My Story
I'm René García — a licensed therapist, clinical supervisor, and the founder of Garcia Mental Health. I specialize in working with men who have historically avoided therapy, whether because of cultural expectations, pride, or simply never being told it was an option.
Growing up as a Latino man, I understand firsthand the weight of machismo — the unspoken rules about what it means to be strong, to provide, to never show weakness. I built this practice because I believe there's a different kind of strength: the kind that comes from honesty, vulnerability, and doing the hard work of understanding yourself.
My approach is direct, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based methods. I use Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Narrative Therapy to help clients reframe their stories, break destructive patterns, and build the lives they actually want — not the ones they were told to want.
Whether you're dealing with anger that keeps boiling over, anxiety that won't quiet down, a relationship on the rocks, or just a feeling that something's off — I'm here to help you figure it out. No judgment. No fluff. Just real talk.
#MenDoTherapy
Serving Men Across Texas
I wake up every morning driven by one mission: improving men's mental health. It is a topic I think about daily, constantly asking myself how I can better serve the men who need support.
I founded this practice in 2017 with a general focus, but it didn't take long to realize my true purpose. Men were coming to me specifically because they wanted to talk to another man. That clarity led me, in 2020, to specialize my practice exclusively to treat adult men. My hope is that any man in Texas searching for therapy will feel confident reaching out to me.

Re-thinking Masculinity Book Club — Oak Cliff, Dallas
My Approach to Men's Therapy
To me, “specializing” means doing my best to meet you exactly where you are. I dedicate time to studying research and literature on men's mental health, masculinity, machismo culture, and the unique medical factors affecting men. This helps me apply therapeutic tools effectively to a man who is struggling.
It's important to know what my practice is not. I do not practice “himpathy” — making excuses for poor behavior — and I do not condone toxic masculinity.
If you're a man ready to do that work, or if you're a loved one looking for help, you've found me.

Beyond the Office
I'm a Houston native who's called North Texas home since 2014. My life revolves around two things: rhythm and family. Whether it's catching a live rock show, dancing in the living room with my wife, or training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — I love staying in motion. My two beautiful daughters — born 17 years apart — keep life exciting and my schedule full. When I'm not on my bike, I'm usually keeping up with the latest superhero movies or trying to convince my kids that Star Wars is the greatest saga of all time. This is the way.
In the Community
Through @mendotherapy, I bring men's mental health conversations beyond the therapy room and into the community.
